render mp4 with audio?

I thought I had rendered mp4s from max with sound, but every attempt now lack audio. I do have sounds loaded in dope sheet and the sounds play in the viewport but no audio on rendered video.

Typically you render to image sequence, then use composting or editing software to combine video with sound and encode it. Exporting mp4 from max is a bad idea. Also I doubt it can export audio.

Yes, I almost always render frames and put together in Premiere, but I'm
making some short demos that render almost instantly and the .mp4s right
out of max look great. I just could have sworn I had rendered those
directly out of max with sound. I guess not. Thanks for taking the time
to answer.
