Realistic view

Hello,

I'm currently an animation student running 3ds Max 2017 in a Windows 10 OS.  Almost all the time the tutorials I watch have a view up in their viewports that says Realistic, but I don't find that in my software program.  If this is the preferred view, how come it doesn't come in the student package?

Thanks to anyone who can help 🙂

Sincerely,

Crystal

Hi, their tutorials are probably made with an older version of 3ds Max. In 2017, you don't have realistic viewport. It has been replaced by "High Quality", and also "Standard", "Performance" and "Dx Mode". For best performances, if you go to "customize", "Preference settings", in viewport tab, display drivers, you should have Nitrous Directx 11. If you can't chose directx 11, it means your graphic card is too old so you could have some problems with high quality viewport.

Hey Eric,

Thank you!!  I'm running an Nvidia Graphics card - high end, so I'll switch to that view.  I'm currently modeling a medieval castle kitchen and need to create some fruit, vegetables and fresh / dried meats and herbs, so I wanted to get the best view possible to make sure it looks real and I'd always just wondered about the Realistic view.  Thanks for clearing up my confusion.  Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Crystal
