Part of the Viewport freezes like a magnifier glass

Hi,

I am having a problem that appears on my last to files I was working on - Part of the viewport freezes and is on top off all in a upscaled resolution, like a freezing magnifier glass. Older files work fine but I want to continue working on the files. Cant work like this 😞

I have attached 2 screenshots that its easier to see what I mean:

--------------------

I have tried switching from DX 11 viewport to DX9.
I have tried deleting the shader cache file.
I have tried deleting the appdata local user folder.

Nothing worked that far.
I am using max 2018 now since a week or so and never had that problem before - nothing changed on my drivers/hardware/updates etc. - just all of the sudden it appeared.

My Specs:

- Core i7 5820K / 16GB Ram / GTX 460
- Windows 10
- 3ds Max 2018

Thanks in advance for help on that problem!

FIXED!

On the lower left side I switched to a different Viewport layout and back and then it was gone.

Its a workaround fix but I hope that in an updated versions of max it will be fixed from the program side.

Well done @Anonymous, thanks for posting your workaround.  According to the graphics hardware list, your card is just shy of the certified cards (starts at the 465), so the problem might have to do with a lack of support for that card.  Generally speaking it can still work, but sometimes you might need to try a different display driver in 3ds Max for optimal compatibility.  Thanks again for posting your solution!

Best Regards,

Thanks Alfred. - Another quick update on the topic:

I have bought a new graphics card ( Geforce GTX 1060 ) and the problem disappeared. Seems really like the GTX 460 has limited support for 3ds max 2018.

Thank you for the update and confirmation @Anonymous.  Those 460 cards are pretty old and since 2017 the viewport does put a lot more stress on the graphics cards.  Sounds like it was a much needed upgrade and I'm glad it's all working for you now.  Smiley Happy
