Object deselected while in Sub-object mode

Hello,
I have a problem:

While I'm modeling something in 3DS max,  when I am in sub-object mode (Vertex, edges, polygon, etc.) the object gets fully deselected and I can't re-enter in sub-object mode rather than just deselect the objects highlighted in red.

Any ideas
