Missing Dll

When I load any scene files from Max 2020 in Max 2021 I get 'Missing Dll's error message: FileName:mrmaterialsattribs.gup'.

I'm guessing this is error message is linked to the now obsolete Mental Ray renderer, which I have not used for a number of years as I'm a full time VRay Next user. As a result, I know that none of my scene files have any associated Mental Ray materials. Similarly, I also have not used Arnold to date, so again my scene files will  not contain any Arnold associated materials.

Can you advise how to stop this error message please.

Hi @peter_coultas ,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

As you have seen, we have removed Mental Ray plugin from 3ds Max 2021 completely.  When you open a scene saved from an older version of 3ds Max, even if you don't use Mental Ray renderer, some dependencies are still saved in the scene.  You can remove these Mental Ray dependencies from the Scene Converter or from the message window (choose "Remove").

Please let us know if this is helpful.

Hi Libei!

Thank you for providing some solution for this. Just curious if this is the new approach from now on, or is it just a temporary fix?

Unfortunately, this approach with the scene converter is very tedious and does not save time after all. Since everytime I drag and drop assets into my scene I will always have to deal with Scene converter, specially when working with connecter it's super annoying. I'm sure I will have to go through the same process for every new project.

I guess the ideal situation is to not have anything popping up at all.

If you guys are currently working on it, then I just have to be patient. But I just would like to know.

Thank you!

I counted today... I clicked ok 367 times today (merge, materials...) to get rid of warning boxes. It is a MAX problem and not a user problem.
