Max is not saving my Files!

Hey there,

when I open a file with Max, modify it and then press Ctrl+S or File -> save, no file is saved. Max shows below the timeline that it would save, but no new file is written.
If I try to save the file under a different name, it works.

If I run Max as administrator, it can save files normally. However, it is not an option for me to run Max as administrator permanently.

I am using 3ds Max 2023 and Windows 10.

Hi @L_Moeller,

Thanks for sharing your issue with us.
Sorry to hear you are experiencing this.

Please try the Comspec method to run 3ds Max elevated, but without admin privilege:

Use the 3ds Max desktop shortcut icon to execute the program with Command-Line. To do this:

  1. Create a 3ds Max shortcut on the desktop by right-clicking on the 3dsmax.exe file located in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max <version>.
  2. Select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).
  3. Once the 3ds Max shortcut icon is created, right-click it and select Properties.
  4. In the Target field where the path to the 3dsmax.exe file is located, add the following text to the beginning of the pathname, keeping the pathname in quotes: %comspec% /c.
    • The shortcut Target could look similar to: %comspec% /c "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2019\3dsmax.exe"
  1. Click Apply.
  2. Click OK to confirm the edits.
  3. Run the 3ds Max version by double-clicking on the newly modified shortcut icon.
    • Note: If a Command Prompt window appears after launching 3ds Max, it can be closed without affecting any 3ds Max functionality.

We look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks.
Regards,

Unfortunately that didn't help, Max won't start this way.

But I found out something else:
I have always dragged and dropped the scenes from the network into Max and then opened them. Since Max 2023 I think Max saves a copy in "C:\Users\lm\Documents\3ds Max 2023\downloads". When I save the file now, it saves it to that folder and not to the network as it should.

Is there a way that when using drag and drop, Max does not save the file to downloads, but leaves the location on the network?

Hi @L_Moeller,

Customize > Configure Project Paths.

Does it say Downloads is the default Project Folder?

Perhaps changing this may make a difference?

Yes, when I change the Project Path, it saves the files to the folder I specified. But it still saves the files and so changes the path to the file. it still does not save to the original location.

I found this:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Draggi...
But unfortunately my .inis all have a 0 at the end of the Lines.
