Making objects transparent in rendering

Using the new 16 version, I am having dificulty making objects transparent. I have a student who has an atmosheric apparatus with volume fog inside a shelled piece of geometry. No matter what material, opacity, transparency I use, that apparatus will not render. Geometry remains opaque. What material or renderer do I need to use to make that geometry transparent?

Thomas,

Ii your student is  using the Volume Fog, I would suggest only using the ScanLine renderer.   Then only use the materials from the Standard group.

You can set the Opacity with the Standard material or Transparancy with the Architectual material.

Alternatively you can use Object Properties, set to By Object, to adjust the Visibiity of your object.

Something else to check in the Render Setup dialog box, on the Raytracer tab, is the Ray Depth Control, make sure it is set high enough for the scene.

You could also post screen shots of the object and material applied to the object for us to review.
