Keyboard shortcut for using Connect on verts in an Editable Poly?

The shortcut for "Connect Edge Settings" works fine for connecting edges, but I need something for connecting verts. Right now I'm just moving my mouse to the "connect" button in the right panel after I select the verts I want to connect, which is kind of tedious. Is there a shortcut for connecting verts that I could assign a key to? Right now "Connect Vertex (Poly)" seemed like what I was looking for, but it doesn't work.

1. Go to 'Customize/Hotkey Editor...' and in the field 'Type to search by Actions...' input 'connect.' 

2. Look for 'Connect Vertex (Poly)' 

3. Go on the right side and set your keystroke and then 'Save' and exit the Editor. 

The keystroke I set worked perfectly, so, choose your own and give it a try.
