Issue with Illustrator Paths

I'm very new to these 3D modelling software and I've always wanted to learn them, but they're just so confusing and complex!

Last thing I wanted to do is to import an Illustrator path and extrude it with a bevel. Now, whatever I do with this shape, it all ends up missing most of its parts.

I'm trying to recreate a logo and I can upload the reference if someone is kind enough to guide me on how to achieve a logo, like the original.

I think all that is needed is some vertex welding.

When you display the vertex numbers notice that on the M vertices 1 and 15 are at the same location.

The solution is to select all vertices and weld with a value small enough that doesn't modify the shape but is large enough to weld redundant vertices. I found 0.001 worked well.
