Internet Explorer and 3ds Max 2020 problem

I installed 3ds Max 2020 and when launching it says I need Internet Explorer 10 (or higher).  I have IE9.  I searched on Microsoft site and I can find installs for IE11 and even IE9 but not IE10.

Dare I install IE11 or will it break things?

I am also running older versions on this machine 3ds max 2010,13,16,17 and Adobe CS6 I do not want to break.

I am running WIN7 Pro 64 on all my machines except a new one that I haven't set up yet which will already have a newer IE pre-installed anyway

That's pretty strange, I just installed Max 2020 on a Win 7 pro machine and did not receive any such error message.  I have not used Internet Explorer for years after installing Google Chrome as my default browser.  Maybe this is related?  You could try installing google chrome as your default browser and see if the message is eliminated.

Thank you.  I do not use internet explorer either and that is why I left it alone since I bought the computer. I use google and Firefox but Max 2020 apparently requires IE when it launches the program.  My computer is 2013 and apparently my version of Win 7 had IE9 back then just a little too late.

Anyway from what I've been reading there are tricks to bypass it by modifying a file but I don't have access to the file since I only have the two main install files which decompress when installing.

One guy said go ahead and install IE11 and it will be fine.

Hi,

Windows 7 user here as well. My IE version is 11. I'm surprised that Windows Update hasn't been nagging you to update. Are you not doing the updates? Don't download from MS - do the update from Windows Update.

I'm using CS 6 as well and there is no problem there. I've had the Max versions you've listed and pretty sure IE was at 11 for those as well. You may want to set a restore point before you update - for a little peace of mind but I think it should be okay.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone.  I turned off automatic updates and left everything alone once I got all my software to work so that is why it stayed on IE9 all these years.

When you have a lot of software and plugins like I do it seems easier to do it that way then create problems with updates that break things......except when you go too long like this and then it creates a different problem, hahaha 🙂
