How do I change the default renderer in my scene 3DS Max 2018

Hello,

 

I'm learning 3ds max from this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnKw1txyYzRkDT7ZH-2Mzd4hwZ_zjY_jt

 

But it seems the rendering setup in this video is not the default in my 3ds max 2018. Can anyone show me how to set the rendering settings so it will come out the same as in the video? My rendering is set to ART rendering.

Since you are a new user get in the habit of going to the Max 'Help' file for basic things like this. You'll learn a lot and while you search for your answer you'll run across and learn other things. Max is deep and powerful and you need to learn how to "help yourself" a lot when getting started. The Max 'Help' file can be accessed from the very top item in the well...'Help' tab.

But what i mean was, what is the rendering settings on the tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnKw1txyYzRkDT7ZH-2Mzd4hwZ_zjY_jt

 

so i can match the outcome on the video. FYI the rendering on my current 3ds max 2018 is ART rendering.

Hello @Anonymous

 

Thanks for coming to the 3DS Max forums!  While 3DS Max is open, navigate to your render setup menu, and in the top renderer field, click on the dropdown menu that says ART renderer. You can then choose Scanline from the list.

 

As @DarrenP mentioned ,in the playlist you linked, they walk through how to change the rendering engine from ART to Scanline, to any other rendering engine you want to use. Here is the video that mentions how to open up the render setup, and change those settings.

test render.pngThis is what i get when i render using scanline renderer, the train station scene is too bright as you can see.. Can you tell me how to get this right just like in the tutorial? Many thanks

Great to hear that you were able to change the renderer to Scanline! It  looks like your lights are too bright for the scene! If you could post this rendering issue in a new thread on the forums and mention me at @hagen.deloss , I can help troubleshoot this new issue.
