I need to animate a drill going through a rock face. I need the following animations done:

1. XYZ movement of the drill to the hole locations (complete)

2. Y axis rotation of the drill bit (complete)

3. Gradual subtraction of material (slow extrusion) through the rock face (incomplete)

4. Partical affects of debris leaving the drill hole (incomplete)

What is the best way to extrude a subtraction through editable polys? The boolean and bridge techniques aren't working for me.

PS. the rock face is a box with a noise modifier applied to it. it's not flat.

Using edit poly in animation mode will give you the efect you want. You could also use morpher modifier to achieve the same thing. Just make sure that you have the same number of verticies in both the before and after model.
