hardware for 3ds max 2019

Hi, i've seen similar questions asked before but not for max 2019.

i'm new to 3d modeling and i'm ready to invest in a new computer.

a few questions:

how important is a desktop over a laptop? i don't really have the space currently for a desktop computer but could figure something out if needed to.

if i'm looking to spend around $2000, where should i put my money? (RAM, graphics card, CPU)

I'm not doing any heavy animations and i just use max, vray and photoshop. i want something fast though.

i do have a 1 tb ssd on my old laptop which i wonder if i can transfer to a new computer.

Generally I prefer Desktops over Laptops, for a number of reasons. I find them to be harder wearing, both component wise and physically. Desktop parts can quite easily be upgraded for a number of years after purchase, whereas on a Laptop you are kinda stuck with what you initially get (aside from perhaps additional RAM). Desktops stay cooler, are less noisy and lastly, you're less likely to leave a Desktop on a bus by mistake.

You mention that you are using vRay, I presume the CPU render version, so in terms of priority I would choose the best CPU(s) you can afford, RAM secondary and lastly graphics card, in that order.

Your SSD drive can certainly be reused, as it will fit as standard into most machines.

Hrm, I thought I explained it well enough... mustn't have.

vRay CPU powered = Get lots of fast CPUs, not much else matters. Although a
nice Graphics card is always nice to navigate inside big complicated scenes.
