Find high polygon count objects in scene..?

Hi,

I'm trying to find a process or script that can find or list the high polygon count objects in a scene. It's up to 17,000,000 polys and counting.

I've tried a few older scripts from Scriptspot but they just return errors.

Also the 3DSMax -> File -> Summary Info dialogue box it quite rudimentary; I can't expand the window in 3DSMax 2016, nor can I sort the 33000 objects by order of face count. And scrolling through the list is just silly behavior.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

If you open the select by name dialogue (click the icon or tap H on your keyboard) and go to Customize\Configure Columns then you can add "faces" to the list of details, click the top of the column and it will sort everything by face count in either ascending or descending order.

Hope this helps!Capture.JPG

Thanks Sam,

I never knew that was there. This compounds the my belief that I will never know the full extents of this software, even after twenty years using it. 😞

No problem, I actually forgot it was there until recently!

Max is filled with lots of hidden gems, I'm sure most users have barely scratched the surface.

@sam_large Great tip! We have a thread collection of tips, tricks, etc. Maybe post it there to share. There's actually tons of stuff in the scene explorer.

Share your favorite tips, tricks, workflows, and secrets in 3ds Max.
