Feature: copying material with names

as it stands, when copying materials or nodes, the names are completely generic and disregard the original node name.

it would just make alot of sense to have copied materials have some suffix like they do with copied objects.

having to manually rename large amounts of materials is a complete drag.

Neil Blevins' Soulburnscripts contain a nameManager which handles maps+materials.

Put your mat to a temporary library, load this into a separate MAX instance, nameManage it, put it back to the library and load it back into the source file.

Yes, a bit clumsy...

hi keyner,

thanks, i realize thats how it works but i have no intention to post requests there anymore, especially "features" that should be taken for granted.

the feedback system is completely flawed. there are tons of small requests bumming around with 1 to 3 votes bound to stay that way forever.

all of them pretty useful or should be there right out of the box, but the system depends on constant user feedback most of which are dismayed at this point.

are people supposed to look up new features everyday and vote them up? who has time for that? every request i see seems to get lost in the ungodly pile of necessary fixes. if ideas do get some traction, autodesk has very selective views on which features are actually picked up once the vote count is in the hundreds. (which takes years to get to)

so putting up a request there is equivalent to dropping a dime in a well and making a wish.

apologies but i have absolutely no faith in it.

i should not even be mentioning this.

copying materials should be consistent with copying object, naming-wise, simple as that.

thanks stefan,

it seems that every other basic missing feature has been covered by soulburn scripts.

not sure that workaround will work for me but thank you very much for suggesting it.

kudos.
