Everytime i import pbr textures into 3ds max, the displacement map is really messed up.hmm.jpgUten navn.png

I honestly don't get why is is happening. This is a material i got from Poliigon and the shape just does its own thing when i drag in the displacement map. (Im using VRay material)

Hi,

There is a way to fix this,

On the corners try creating additional segments very close to those corners,

Additional segments/polygonsAdditional segments/polygons

In the picture above I only did this at one corner only, but you need to that

On the 8 corners.

Now, select those newly created polygons and gives them the same smoothing group value

Like shown below(you don't have to use the same value in the image)

Smoothing Group=same value for both facesSmoothing Group=same value for both faces

I did a small test where you can see that the problem is gone where I did the fixing,

But it still shows in other places.

Test RenderTest Render

In my test, I used the VrayDisplacemntMod modifier which is faster(recommended)

In the parameters rollout, I choose the 2D landscape option.

Note: This fix will work also in the material editor with the Displace map.
