From what I have read here, there is no way to change the default values for tools such as Weld, Extrude, Inset etc.. Is that still true? I must use the symmetry modifier at least 50 times a day and would love to change the threshold from .039 to .003. Same with Weld, Inset etc...

Still looking for a solution for this. Im surprised no one has made a script for this if it cant be changed easy.
Thanks a bunch for this script, still trying to figure it out all the way but it definitely works good on the symmetry modifier. That there Sir just saved me a ton of clicking. 🙂 Do you have this installed? Just wondering if you have any problems with it?
Hello @chuck,
I'm glad @zaluski linked that, it's a cool script. It's a useful way of solving this issue. Thank you @zaluski, you're a rock star.
Another option is to make a button with the exact command and reassign the hotkey to the button which is a bit more legwork. I noticed we don't have an article about this up, so I've put in a request for one. You have to basically wrap it in a macroscript to pull it off, but I think the script here is probably more useful.

I look forward to read this article, thank you.
Hello @chuck,
I just wanted to follow up here, did the script suggested by @zaluski solve this issue for you? I just wanted to make sure! Thanks.

Not completely, it works great on the symmetry modifier but I cannot get it to work for anything under editable poly or edit poly. Weld , extrude, inset all reset back to .039
@chuck; If for some reason this is not a good solution for you, I have another one:
Watch video from attachment.
Later you can edit values in the script in accordance with the needs by Edit Macro Script
Best Regards
This works and I thank so much, I set mine to a hot key,,, actually the same hot key I use to convert to editable poly.
You really got me thinking Ill tell ya. I dont know why I always forget about the MaxScript Listener. So what I did which even stream lines my work flow even more was I added a few more lines which converts to editable poly, selects vertex mode, then sets all the defaults in one go.
This is so sweet.
I have the best of both worlds now. All my modifiers and tools can be set with custom default values.
macros.run "Modifier Stack" "Convert_to_Poly"
macros.run "Modifier Stack" "SubObject_1"
$.weldThreshold = 0.00762
$.faceExtrudeHeight = 0.2794
$.insetAmount = 0.254
