Chamfer edge problem

Hello,

I have imported a simple geometry from Sketchup to 3Ds max and cant chamfer the edges. I want to chamfer the edges because when I place a displacement bitmap the geometry opens my edges. I am using Corona render and I don't know how to fix this problem. Vray seem to have a comma001.JPGnd that fixes the displacement problem but I cant find it in Corona.

Please share the .max file if you can.

Sorry, but that scene has more than 2000 objects! This is too complex in order to help you. Your screenshot shows a single object where you have trouble with chamfer - that is what I would like to see.

Thanks - but that is not the object shown in your screenshot, is it? This one is not closed at the top:

Edit: Sorry, just realized that the face is not missing but its normals are inverted. That scene geometry is quite messed up, this will take some time to clean...

Either way, that object in the 01.max scene you uploaded has broken vertices, i.e. each corner of that box consists of three separate vertices (that happen to be in the same position).

To fix this, you need to weld the vertices. You can do this in Edit Poly (Vertex sub-object mode > select all > Click 'Weld' option > select a really small threshold (e.g. 0.00001)) or you apply a Vertex Weld modifier with a very, very small threshold.

Edit: I just noticed that your geometry also has problems with surface orientations/normals. Try to select a face in your example scene and move it to the side - not all of the mesh will follow as expected! So you need to "flip" the faces that have this problem before you weld vertices.

Also note: your .max file has some serious problem - when opening it, I get the warning "14836 unused Animation Layer Control(s) removed".
