Can 3Ds max cut geometry by the edges ? I want to slice into and object like a head model and I want to explode it but I need to make cuts on geometry that will turn into skin after cloth simulation.

EDIT. I figured it out but forum can't delete messages so.

Slice Modifier cuts the objects by a Slice Plane Gizmo. Either the top or the bottom portion is deleted according to your selection from the modifier's settings. You can create a copy of the mesh, Slice the appropriate part and also use the Push modifier can be used to move the cloth object apart from the mesh according the its face normals.

Shape Merge Compound object is another command that can be used to cut the models by using a spline shape. The Cookie Cutter mode, as the name implies, creates a border on the surface aligned with the projection of the shape. You can then select the appropriate half and delete it, leaving the necessary half for your use. Shape Merge Compound Object is along with Boolean and Loft Objects, Create/3D Objects/Compound Objects.

I also remember a Skin Wrap Modifier which you can check to see if you can benefit from. I don't clearly recall its use, but I remember once using it to create clothing by using the body itself.

Yes, you can split by edges. If the object is an editable poly, go to the edge sub-object mode, select the edges you want to split and click the Split button in the modify tab.

I noticed you said you found a solution and wanted to delete the post, but I am answering instead of deleting so that others who might have the same question can get the answer.
