Camera Tracking on set

Hi,

this is probably the wrong forum to look for clues on this topic, but I kind of got pretty stuck on my research for a project that lies in the future and I didn't want to leave any stone unturned.

I am looking for a way to track/record the movement/position/rotation of a camera on set for later use in 3ds max. The data would be used for 3d set extensions mostly.

I know there are dozens of (expensive) hardware solutions out there but since our projects is basically low budget we are sort of looking for "hacks" or experiences from people who might have done something similar in the past.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
