[bug] using Array in Grid-Fill mode on Spline or 2d object causes max to hang

The spline (or spline-converted to edit-poly) is flat in the Z axis.

 

This works perfectly fine when I have a shell modifier on the object to give it some thickness. It completely locks up when the shell is removed.

 

I imagine this is because the Height is set to "1mm" instead of "0mm", and since the objects are 2d with no thickness, it's essentially dividing by zero. But given that the default values for all three axis are "1mm", if you forget to put a shell modifier (or something that gives a 2d element some thickness) and put the array modifier on it and switch to fill, it will completely lock up.

Could you share a .max file?

I fail to reproduce this issue, so maybe there is something additional beyond your description?

And which version of 3ds Max are you using?
