Hey Kinda new to 3DS max. I'm a bit confused on how I would render this out. I want to render only one half of the cube behind the plane. I also need the plane not to show up in the final render. I'm a compositor learning 3DS max and I understand the concept for this but this is the effect I'm trying to achieve.

"pause at 57 seconds in! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwNVQvygCNQ "

Pretend the plane is separating the arm. I need to be able to split it into 2 renders. One for beind the plane and one for in front.

Thank you! help exporting.PNG

Hello @Anonymous,

Depending on which renderer you are using, there are a number of ways to deal with this issue.  I think the simplest is to use a Slice modifier followed by a Cap modifier unless you want the model to be open, in which case just use the slice.  If you need both sides, you can then duplicated the object and reverse the slice direction and you should be good to go.  There are also workflows with matte objects and that sort of thing but it's a bit more advanced.  Once you are more familiar with rendering concepts it would be worth looking into, but this first method will work no problem.  That slice plane is totally able to be animated so it's very flexible.

I have attached a simple scene in 2015 for you to demonstrate this concept.  I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards!
