Backburner - skip existing images - question

Hi, just a simple question to a small problem. Actually not a problem but... I just ask for fun.

So I have an animation lets say 300 images. I find out that 140 frames are done but since frame 50 there has been

an object moving which I didn't want to move. So I stop the rendering from BB, delete the frames which I don't want.

(then I delete the keyframes and re-send the animation to be rendered but with "skip existing images")

My farm computers vary from Super fast to not so fast. Backburner gives orders for all the farm computers to render

lets say 25 frames per computer. All fast computers are soon done but one or two slow computers still render those 25 frames assigned to it.

My question follows: AS the BB manager gives instruction for computers to render lets say those 25 frames -

CAN I say to BB manager / queue monitor that a computer could render just 5 images and then get new instructions from manager/monitor.

And as a bonus question; could it be possible that the fast computers would check "aaa that slow one hasn't done images, maybe I´ll take over". Just had a similar thing, fast computers were done, slow ones were still rendering.

~If the pref.index is higher and the computer is free from work, let it take over.

I´d think these improvements would make Backburner even more efficient.

Best regards,

Hi Mikko,

Thanks for your question! Please note that Backburner is, admittedly, a 32-bit legacy app, and doesn't have the enhanced bells and whistles of other network rendering management software.

If some of your faster rendering nodes have finished with their renders, but the slower machines are still crunching through frames, you might consider just removing those nodes from the Backburner Queue Monitor, which should force the faster machines to then pick up those frames.

In addition, could you please post this request to the 3ds Max Ideas Forum so the developers and product folks can see that customers still want to see improvements in Backburner?

Thanks again, and please let us know if this helps!
