Hi,

I had just installed 3ds max 2018 (student version). Every time I start 3ds max the display goes off (notification says display driver stopped working but recovered) and hangs (not responding) after the welcome screen dialog appears.

I have tried repairing and reinstalling it but that doesn't seem to work any input to my situation is appreciated.

thank you in advance.

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

I'm seeing a sudden increase in cases about this recently.  I'd like to try to field all the posts in this thread here.  Of course you don't have to post in there if you don't want to, but it seems easier to collect info in one place.  If you would rather handle it here, I have some questions for you please.

1) Are you all on W10?

2) Creator's Update?

3) Standalone licenses or network license?

4) Is it possible to record a video of what you are seeing when you try to start 3ds Max?  If not, are you seeing a splash screen?  Or nothing at all?

5) Do you own a Dell computer using Dell Backup?

6) Have you tried resetting your user settings?

7) Was this ever working for you, or did it suddenly stop?

8) If you uninstall Arnold, does it help?  (Some processors are not SSE4.1 compatible.  Those that aren't would be very old though, so it's not likely.)

9) Some users have noted that uninstalling the 2012 C++ libraries and rebooting, then reinstalling the latest version have helped them.  Can you please try this?

10)If you boot into Safe Mode in Windows, does Max start then?

Please answer those to the best of your ability, and thank you for doing so.

Best Regards,

hallo

Try doing so, here we had similar problems on winows 10

Remove the "Welcome Screen" of product presentation.
Solution:
Go to C:\Users\ *** username *** \AppData\Local\ Autodesk\3dsMax\2018 - 64bit\ENU)
Open "3dsMax.ini" files with block notes
Go to the "ShowAtStartupExt" line and set the value to 0
than save

that's all and good luck
