Asset Browser Missing in 3ds Max 2018

I finally got 3ds Max 2018 installed to where it actually launches without crashing, and I've been playing with the Arnold rendering engine - I still have a lot to learn, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel - hopefully it's not an oncoming train.

However, I don't seem to have the Asset Browser anymore? It's not on the Utilities command panel where it used to be, not even when I click "More...", and everything I Google says it should be there.

Am I missing something?

this bug is ususally caused by switching from two monitors down to 1 monitor if you are using a two monitor setup.

Except I'm using two monitors - I haven't stepped down to a single one at the moment...

I have a Dell Precision notebook and a Samsung monitor set up as the 2nd monitor.

Ah... I see what you're talking about. I wasn't being clear - it's not that I lose the asset browser - I mean it's just not there  - there is no Asset Browser button on the utilities command panel and it's not under "More". There's no way to activate the asset browser, in other words - unless there's some other way I'm not aware of (hotkey or something).

See the attached image...

Not a huge deal - I rarely use it, frankly, but it's nice to have when you need it.

cannot you restore 3ds  max back to the Factory setting to get your Asset Browser back,

here is the maxscript link http://help.autodesk.com/view/3DSMAX/2017/ENU/?guid=__files_GUID_8C820B06_010C_4BD4_BC56_BA2B6E989FE...

But i don't think you want to do this everytime you want to use the Asset Browser

Maybe someone else has a better way of find it,

the link i gave you is for the 2017 version i don't know if the Maxscript language compaired to the 2018 version

Well, if running assetBrowser.open() worked, you could select and drag that line to a toolbar to make a button out of it so that wouldn't be all that bad. But it looks like assetBrowser was completely removed from 2018 (and I'm not surprised, it's long broken and a big security issue) so using 3ds Max Asset Library instead seems to be the proper way now (unless you wanted to use it as a web browser).

@Swordslayer but if he cannot find the Asset Browser then i did not know what other infomation to give him, a last resort is to backup all files and uninstall and reinstall it see if that works

Hey - thanks for  the tip about the 3ds Max Asset  Library! I'll give that a go. I really don't use the Asset Browser much - as you said, it is a little flaky.

Thanks again.

Hello @MattDillon247,

The asset browser has been replaced with the Asset Library.  You can find it on the top menu bar under Content.  The code for the asset browser was outdated and needed to be replaced.

Best Regards,

I was wondering about that too, and now I just need to download the "Autodesk 3ds Max Asset Library"

Good to know the change this in 3ds Max 2018
