Ase export multiple objects, only the 2nd has animations

I have a scene with two objects.

Both are animated across 3 frames (rotation, scale, vertices are manually moved etc.)

They haven't been linked or attached to one each other in any way.

 

When I export to ASE, only the second  GEOMOBJECT has multiple meshes, one for each timevalue.

The first GEOMOBJECT has only timevalue 0

 

What am I missing?

This might not be much help but ASE is an ancient file format. I doubt anything has been done to it since 3D Studio Max 1.0.

Any chance to use a different format?

 

PS: I just tried to set up a scene like you describe (with two animated boxes) and export to ASE, and this is what I get:

looks ok to me?

(except that for rotations there seems to be only a single key frame - there is only one CONTROL_ROT_SAMPLE for t=800, none for t=0)
