Animate splines to show architecture being built

I need to automate the animation of splines to show architecture being built.

Similar to this:

Not just slicing a completed model, I'd like to show it 'growing' with blueprint lines etc.

Can this be done natively, or with a script or plugin?

Well on the spline itself I can't think of anything. But you can turn the splines to meshes and use particle face creator  modifier to get a growing effect on anything. It's actually very easy to setup. Search the modifier I mentioned to find the tutorials. If you couldn't find a proper solution let me know to explain more.

This is the perfect plugin for you:

TurboSplines, from SplineDynamics.

Another approach is to use lofted shapes to define the beams and then animate the scale factor from 0 (for no beam) and 100 (for the fully shaped beam).  The scale factor can be keyframed to control the speed and portion of the spline that becomes "visible".
