animate material question

I have 18 keyframes and 18 materials

What would be the best method to assign each to there respective keyframes?

I would be ideal if it could be accomplished like this.

Thank you so much for all your help @leeminardi on this. I had to temporally move on to a hot project which offers new and exciting challenges which i love! Great way to start out the new year.  I may be tied up for the next two weeks on this project. I will look at  your script more when i get a chance. I must tell you that scripting is really confusing to me and i am having a great deal of trouble even following examples because I am not clicking with it for some reason. This year it is one of my goals however to get more familiar with it. Any simple basic good tutorials that you know of that you can pass my way i would welcome them.

I cant thank you enough for all your efforts @leeminardi but i didn't realize it before that I had another post that said animate material request vs animate material question. My bad! And sorry about that but i just noticed that 3 weeks ago Jan_Brana repied with a solution. using multi sub material with a material modifier. Maybe you mentioned it as well but I looked at that before but for some reason it didn't click.

Anyway i keep your scripts so i can try to get a better understanding of scripting in the future so all is not lost.
