3dsmax--to-->Substance Painter. Best format?

If you got any experience with both, a few info about it would be great...  I want to make the textures in substance and later move them back to 3d max.

Hello @bioclone_ax45,

FBX for models, for textures it gets a bit trickier.   PNG are great for quality vs. size, but they don't have an alpha channel, they have 'transparency'.   So if you are putting your gloss map in the alpha of the spec, then it's not going to work right.  Many times I use tga for those maps that need to put something in the alpha channel, and png for others.   Either way, use 16 bit images so no jpgs or things like that if you are really after quality.

You could also do EXR exports if you're doing high end rendering.  I use one of Clovis Gay's plugins called "Substance to Vray" which auto makes the materials for me.  It's pretty awesome, like all his stuff.

Best Regards,

Alfred (AJ) DeFlaminis
