I was testing Max, Maya, Blender and Cinema 4d for importing one .fbx file.
Pleaese find the .fbx file attached.
3dsmax: after waiting for over an hour reading Envelopes, it stalled, crashed.
I can't import the .fbx file at all.
Can someone at Autodesk please explain what's going on?
I can confirm that there is indeed somehting in that file that Max does not like. I can't get it to import either. Since it imports in other programs there must be something in its coding that's atypical to Max's importer. For that, I can't help. I hope some Autodesk tech can help you.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------yes, it is a 3dsmax .fbx import problem Autodesk needs to fix.
Every other tool can load that file without any issues.
Autodesk: That's a major hit.
appreciate it.
I tried it again now a few weeks later just for the heck of it. Yep, still won't open.
I'm not sure it's necessarily a bug. In many years using Max, there have only been a couple of times an .fbx has failed to import for me. I'm thinking there is some small error in the file that Max just can't resolve. Maybe Max has a tighter implementation on FBX imports and it's not willing to just skip over it. I'm not a programmer so I'm just guessing.
Regardless, it appears you have a lot of other programs that can open it. Why not just open it in one of them, export it out again, import in Max and keep on peddling? Often times we have to be creative to get around a bump in the road so we can keep on going without wasting too much time. If all FBX's were not opening, then that's reason for worry. But, for this one, just do the workaround and keep going.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------It's a bug. It's a problem with envelopes on import, turning that option off can fix it but breaks envelopes. It does need to be fixed.

Ok, a bug. Thanks for the update Alfred.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------That post is a few months old and I'm not sure if it was fixed. If it's the same issue as before, turning off envelopes I believe was the fix.

It's an error. Turning that option off can cure the issue with envelopes during import, but also destroys envelopes. It does require fixing.
Thanks
Please take the time to submit a support ticket about it. The more people who report it, the more cases are added to the bug tracker about it.

It's at Manage.autodesk.com.

I was checking today with Max 2024, just curious if the .fbx import was fixed.
Still not working, even with 2024.
Can someone send an internal note/ticket to finally address that issue?
Hopefully when the x.2 patch is released it will fit it for you. I personally haven't had any issues importing FBX but it appears it depends on the specific file. I can't open yours (the one you uploaded) but I do open them all the time and have no issues. So, it's hit and miss I guess.
They just don't fix a single bug and release a patch for it. They release a patch that has a lot of fixes. We had patch x.1 and it missed a host of issues. No one here can tell you when the next patch will come out. Hopefully soon as it's been a number of months now since trhe last one.
Did you file a bug report like was suggested above? Again, the more people who do it the more likely it will get attention.
Rob Holmes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------it's been over 1.5 years now. I was curious today if anything changed.
After a quick check, the .fbx import and reading the envelopes information from the .fbx file is still broken.
Did this issue never get forwarded to the dev team to fix that bug?
Did you file a support ticket?
Best Regards,
Alfred (AJ) DeFlaminis
nope, I was in big hopes that this post would trigger a ticket automatically internally, or someone from Autodesk would create the ticket, based on the provided information.
Where can we find a link to the ticket system?
@brieder7KWA5 Nope, doesn't work like that. This is a User to User Forum. Sometimes official people do show up but technically don't expect developers to chime in here or answer you. You always need to post a Bug or other report if you find a flaw or issue that you've ruled out as user error.
