3DSMax 2020 Crashes when removing an Xref

In our production workflow we often animated only the necessary models in an scene, and use Xref for related geometry such as the ground and buildings, etc. We also send our final rendering assemblies in a master assembly file with all the static and animated scenes as XRef
Recently I have noticed a bug in Max2020. You can add, enable/disable, and update all the Xrefs normally. But everytime I try to remove an Xref (for example, to clean up the animated scene) Max will crash.
I have tried sending the reports, but have not yet recieved and feedback.
Have any of you experienced the same issue? How did you fix it?
We want to consider uninstall-reinstall as a last option because it would be time consuming to update our workplace software especially during the current pandemic.
