Yesterday I had a windows update version 1709. since then 3ds max does't want to start.

It opens the initialization window and then a few sec later it closes without any other actions.
I updated to 2018.3 without luck.
Reinstalled without luck.
Now i have no idea what to do.

tech stuff:

win10 version 1709
3ds max 2018.3

it seems like it maybe a windows update is blocking max from opening some reason. i would uninstall that update you installed and see if that helps and max opens, or do a windows roll back to yesterday or when-ever you used max and it worked. first back up your models just incase the roll back deletes them

Hello @Anonymous,

Fastest point to a solution would be to post this in the Installation and Licensing forum.  They are specialized in these sorts of things where this board is mostly about Max when it's working.

Best,

AJ

There was a recent major update for WIN10 released over the last week or so (Windows Fall Creator Update). The update has been playing havoc with lots of software, including Autodesk programs and it has affected a wide range of things such as programs crashing on startup, licensing issues and graphics issues.

First thing I would do is a repair install (from control panel > programs and features - to see if that fixes it.

The next step would be to try removing and reinstalling .NET framework - https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-r...

Use the .NET Framework files that are in the 3DS Max installation package to ensure that they match up with the ones that Max "expects".

Also update your drivers for your video card.

It's a pain but it has been found to get around a lot of these issues. If you can log in as administrator whilst doing anything in WIN10 this should get around issues with writing permissions during the installation process.

And also check with your Antivirus vendor to see if there have been any reported issues with their software after the WIN10 update.

That's a long list I know......

Good luck 😉

Insert witty comment here.

So yesterday I tried to revert the windows version. That didn't work. After that I just decided that the easiest way/fastest way to get it fixed would be a pc reset. after that it worked again.

But thanks for trying to help

Thanks to Microsoft AGAIN.  It's really amazing the havoc they have caused with this "Creator's Update".  FYI, It really did a number on FONTS since it's initial release, and they "just RECENTLY" fixed that!  From April until October, FONTS (linked or shortcut) have been broken.  This did not bode well at all for the graphics industry!

There is absolutely NO accountability these days for ANYTHING.  When screw-ups happen at the OS level like that, it really affects everything, including businesses RELYING on everything to work properly.  Ever since that idiot Satya Nadella took over, Windows reliability etc has really turned to crap.  Typical.
