3ds max open max files, but is showing as uknown application

Ok this is an old thread but still I have not resolve it.

And maybe this is the reason also that I don't see thumbnails

(I tried regserv32 with no results)

Max files are opened correctly with 3ds max 2019 but a strange

thing is happening:

1.

In max files properties, I see that an "uknown application" is

assigned for them????

2.

When I go to Windows 10 apps settings again there, 3ds max is showing

but with blank icon, is it good this????

Hi,

I've the same thing happening here, with 2016: 

It doesn't seem to affect 3DSMaxs operation at all. Probably best just ignoring it. 🙂

Any clue why the heck I never see thumbnails????

All other programs (including Autocad) shows up beautiful

thumbs, all... except 3ds max!!!

I tried regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2019\MaxThumbnailShellExt.dll"

with no effect. I tried clean up thumb cache etc... No effect.

I installed mysticthumbs (https://mysticcoder.net/MysticThumbs), it worked but I think they

"eat" system resources...

Any registry tweak (or other) that really works, appreciated...

I'm not sure why they are not showing up. I used to have problems with
windows 7/8 and had to install Magicthumbs too, but in Windows 10 they have
always shown up.

Have you tried associating a different program to open max files, say excel
or something, and then change it back?
