is your windows OS up to date that sounds like a redistribution error, try updating window and 3ds max to the lastest service pack and hot fix https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/downloads.
if you go into your windows event viewer double clck on windows logs and same on applications then look for any 3ds max only error/warning messages double click on that error message and windows will give you a short description of your error message if you run that error through google and it will likely give you an answer, if not then print screen the description or copy and paste it here then someone can take a looked at it
if that doesn't work as long as this is a home computer then setup a new user in windows but this is gonna be annoying because you will need to switch from one user to another i would backup all files and tranfer them to the new users account, if the update doesn't work,
