Okay I got it working by unchecking Gamma and viewing material with map. But now when I got to export the model and I was making this for a game, modding really. So I applied it to a model already rigged and it crashes when exporting every time.

Bump/Normal maps usually do not work by default - you need to select the following option in the Material Editor.

Regarding your crashes I am not sure - are you able to provide more information. What if you select just your model and select 'Export Selected' this will determine if the issue is due to something in the scene or the model itself.

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

I'd like to help you with this, can you please tell me a bit about how your are exporting?  Can you also please post a few screenshots of your material setup now, I just want to make sure it's all good in case it's causing the issue.  Please detail your export process as best as possible, and thanks!

Got it to work, sorry for the long delayed response. Sure will do.

Thought I'd edit and add I'm on Windows 10 64bit and using Max 2013 x64

I am trying to rig it in an mdl file, basically all I've done and will add screenshots in a second is ..

Opened on a new texture..

With it already rigged I tried to export and it crashed. It also an side not, the animations you can play it lags, an ridiculous amount.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thanks for the expanded information.  It should be noted that 3ds Max 2013 isn't supported in Windows 10, though some features will likely work ok and some will not.  I only have back to 2014 installed (we support current -3) so I can't test this scenario but you might have better luck running in compatibility mode since it's developed for other versions of Windows.  (Worth a shot.)

What format are you exporting out as?  Is there an error message?  If you get a CER report window, please let me know the report number and I can tell you which module is crashing after you submit it.  I did a search based on your current email address but no reports came up.

Worst case scenario I'll just have to get a newer version of 3DS, but I have looked, deleting the textures/materials increases it to 50/60 but then once I try to even move the rigged model in the frame it locks up and drops to 0.300

Trying windows 7/8 right now in compatility mode. I am trying to export it as an MDL file.

Also I sent a report so you should have one now under the same email I have here.

Edit - When I sent the report it sent me to a webpage and told me to update it. Here is hoping all it is.

Hello @Anonymous,

The crash is related to two items from what I am seeing in your report.  The first is in the 3dsmax implementation of normal rendering, and the second is with something called gemexport.  I am not sure what that is.  Does that ring a bell?

The normal render issue is likely because of the unsupported OS.  You may be able to get around it on some level by making sure your material editor isn't open when it isn't currently being worked on, but on a fundamental level there is an incompatibility there.

Yeah its called Gem Export I am assuming, its for the game I am trying to mod, unsure why its crashing it though. Will try to remove it and see what happens.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for the update.  I think this is simply a problem with the OS and version of 3ds Max which is causing normally stable things such as the normal renderer and probably the Gem Exporter to malfunction.  If compatibility mode doesn't work, maybe you could do a dual boot and have an older OS for the game development.
