3ds Max - Missing Options and reset user settings

Im going to try and make this as short winded as possible as this problem is getting quite frustrating.

When I open a new 3ds max scene I have no issues, things seem normal. I close max, reopen and all of a sudden im getting these "Missing Script/Plugin" dialogs when I right click on the viewport. The render is installed fine, the dialogs for the renderer are even present at the bottom of the right clicked menu. If I try to use a script like the import from  Megascans feature, I have to re install the max script because its not holding onto it after restart. What gets even funkier is if i close this 3ds Max instance and open a new one, the dialog boxes that show "Missing:" doubles up. It gets to the point where I can no longer see on the screen the Vray options that I need to use.

The only way I have found to fix this is to delete the ENU folder and let it reinitialize. The problem there is it takes time to redo hotkeys, menu setup etc and is not conducive to a clean workflow. PLEASE HELP! 3ds max quad issue.png

Hi @spencer.fitch

Sounds like the plugins/scripts you are using are creating action items and commands that are being instanced into some of the 3ds Max menu files, but on the next startup the 3ds Max menu system cannot find those references during it's startup checks and displays the missing plugin error in place of the previously referenced action item.

There are a number of potential causes for this. One of them may be linked to the issue you experienced regarding scripts for import from Megascans that needs to be installed every time. How are you installing the maxscript?

For the other plugins, it may be an issue with deferred loading (preferences dialog->general tap), an issue with how the plugin is creating and defining action items, or even an issue with how those plugins are inserting their items into the menu systems. There are a lot of variables here and may be difficult to diagnose. Have you tried contacting the plugin vendor? It may be an issue they are aware of and they may have a solution already.

Thank you for the information!

The Megascans plugin is just a python script that you copy and run as a new script. Its nothing major.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if the application/asset manager I use; Connecter is the culprit. When you drag an item from connecter into the 3ds max window, it will install the scripts for importing from connecter but maybe thats whats causing the issues. Ill look into them.

I got ahold of connecter, by design connected and they are not aware of this issue.

On a fresh creation of the ENU folder, I open max, switch my render engine to vray and on my right click in the viewport, all is fine. I close max, reopen it and right click on the viewport and the vray plugins are missing. but if i switch the render engine to vray its fine. Not sure what to do.

@brentscannell  I reinstalled 3ds max, cleared my plugin folder and all seems to be good. Kind of a hassle but I think thats the way to fix it.

Thanks.
