Hello,

Is 3DS Max 8 compatible with Windows 10? I am new to this software and have it installed on a windows 7 machine, but am being upgraded to windows 10.

Not really because 3ds max was not meant to be used on windows 10 but i use max 9 on windows 7 so you would need to buy a newer verison of max or downgrade your software to windows xp, vista etc

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

Nothing made before W10 was released is certified/supported on Windows 10, but you might still be able to get it to work although it's not supported or recommended.  You'd almost definitely need to use compatibility mode in Windows.  You can see the system requirements for Max 8 below.

Hardware: Pentium III or AMD processor, 500 MHz or higher
512 MB RAM (1 GB recommended)
500 MB disk space (2 GB recommended)
Graphics card supporting 1024 x 768 x 16-bit color with 64 MB RAM
DVD-ROM drive

Software: Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (recommended) or Home Edition with Service Pack 2 or Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4
Internet Explorer 6
DirectX 9.oc

Best Regards,

Hi

What is the oldest version of 3D Max - that will work with Window 7 or Windows 10.

I guess Max 8 is 32 bit, so will it work with Windows 7 installed as 32 bit ver ?

Regards

2011 was the first to support Windows 7

no guarantee anything older will

i would recommend doing some searches on the internet or this forum for older version compatibility

Hello @Anonymous,

I apologize for my absence, I was on vacation for a week.  Thanks for your patience while I was away.  @DarrenP is correct that it may work but it's never been tested and there is no official support for it in Win7.   If you try it, you may need to use compatibility mode, so I wanted to mention that.

Hello @irishman_team_kilber,

I ended up getting a cold half way in, it wasn't as fun as I'd hoped.  😛

Thank you for the confirmation @Anonymous, that's cool to know!  It's not officially certified to work but it's nice to get confirmation.

I've got 3DS Max 9 on an older Window 7 machine but could never get it to run on Win10.  Any tips for what you did to get your version running on Win10?

I'm getting a new system shortly and will be trying to build up some contract work, but till then I can't afford the subscription version (since the newer versions of Max aren't available for purchase for some reason).

the only way to get it working is to have sp2 installed but if you have the lastest updates for window then your likely to get a BEX error. i don't know it you can get it running on windows 10 i have 3ds max 9 installed on windows 7

How did you guys get 3ds Max 2008 to work on Windows 10?  Could you tell me step by step how you did successfully?  I actually have my install disks and installed the 64 bit version.  When I go to open it I get an error message saying "Autodesk 3ds Max 2008 License Expiration,  Your license has expired. You can no longer use this product.  To purchase a new copy of this product, visit Autodesk on the web at www.autodesk.com.     Any help would be great! Thank you
