3DS MAX 2020 4k monitor DPI problems still

Hello, I have a student's license for 3ds max 2020. My  17'' laptop has a 4k screen and there are problems with some words in menus and some panels (eg. the import one) that do not appear whole. I have tried lowering the scale of letters etc to 150 through settings and altough that solves the problem the letters are too tiny to read and work with ease on the big screen. Is there any way to solve this problem?

Hi, Are you referring to "Change the size of text, apps, and other items" from "Scale and Layout" section in the Windows Settings app, when mentioning the 150 value. When you click in the this drop down, you should see a recommended value, I would not be surprise if the recommended value for a 17 inch 4K laptop was 200% or 250%. The issue when using a scaling too small should only be that is can be hard to see as UI elements are too small to read.

If you are working with an extra monitor connected to your laptop and 3ds Max dialog on both screens, you will encounter known issues when the screens don't share the same scaling.

If that doesn't resolve your problem, can you share a screen grab of the issue?

Yes I am referring to the scale and layout section of the windows settings app and yes the recommended value is 250. I do not use an extra monitor. And for some reason when I turn the value to 150 now the problem doesn’t go away , whereas before(when I posted ) it did. The problem is down below.

Have you changed the scaling value in this Windows session? if yes, can you try signing out of your windows session, sign-in and restart 3ds Max to see if that solve the issue?

ok so for anyone interested one way around that i just found is that you put 150 value before you open the app and then turn it back to 250 and everything is correct and the right size

Thank you very much for your timw really appreaciate it!!!!

Hi, glad you found and thanks for sharing the workaround to the issue, but I see it is still an inconvenient way to solve it.

I don't see in the thread that Restoring your user Settings to factory state has been tried, that might help as some dialog could have been saved with dimensions from another scaling, that is something I have seen in the past but we are not currently being able to reproduce. Here the instructions: How to reset 3ds Max user preference settings back to default

Those user settings persist when un-installing and re-installing.

We had confirmation that restoring user settings to factory state is not solving the issue.

So far it look like the issue only happen on laptop with 4K resolution, and we are suspecting that some non English Windows operating system languages might be playing a role to triggering the issue. It also been reported that only the English and Brazilian 3ds Max languages are affected by the issue, so using another languages could be a workaround for some people.

:megaphone: Can people affected by the issue describe their system (laptop/desktop model) and operating system version and languages? Thanks.
