3ds Max 2019 Crashes Everytime When Including/Excluding Things!

When you use include/exclude window (no matter if it is in the light setting or somewhere else), 3ds max selects everything then crashes. This function just does not work properly. Also, if you set up a selection set group, you cannot choose anything, then crashes!

Any plan to fix it? So so so annoying!

My version: 3ds Max 2019 Update 2

Renderer: Vray Next

Thanks,

Hello @shineoooo

Thanks for bringing your issue to the forums! Not being able to utilize the light exclude/include tool sounds really frustrating!

I'm running 3DS Max 2019 update 2, and made a simple scene with 3 lights and some geometry, and the tool seems to be working for me.

  • What update version are you on?
  • Would you mind sending me your computer specs?
  • Have you made sure your graphics driver are up to date?

I would suggest seeing if resetting your user profile back to default, here is an article outlining steps on how to do so.

I'm curious, if you change your workspace to design standard>navigate to lighting and rendering tab on the ribbon> click on the include/exclude tool there, if it has similar results?

Let me know if that information helps!

@rene.grosser@hagen.deloss

Thank you so much for the quick response Hagen! That is the exact issue rene.grosser mentioned above. I did not realize it is known issue for Update 2. The worst about this bug is it makes Max crashes without saving.

How I get around it right now is, I select all the objects and rename them, then select them manually.

And big thank you to rene.grosser as well to point it out!

Ouf, you are a more patient person then I! That is not an ideal workflow, I hope this issue can be resolved soon!

This is indeed logged in our internal database, and development is looking into it. If you aren't relying on Max update 2, it looks like @rene.grosser was able to use Max 2019.1.1 without encountering this issue.
