3DS Max 2018 Not loading Graphic Device Problem

Anonymous

When I open Max  I get this error "Could not initialize the graphics device"Untitled.jpg

I googled it and try all the suggestions I could have thought off,

I updated to the latest GPU driver (Nvidia 416.94) also I updated the onboard GPU (Intel HD Graphics 630).

Tried all different options in the Graphics Mode Changer

also, Nitrous Direct3D 11 is missing from Display driver selection menu which is weird especially because I can definitely remember it was there in the past

(screenshots are attached).

CPU: i7 7700HQ 2.8 GHz

OP: Windows 10 x64

GPU:Nvidia 1060 6GB Notebook

I can provide any other information you will need

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for bringing your issue to the 3DS Max forums! It doesn't look like the GTX 1060 is on the recommended hardware list, so I can't guarantee that it would work perfectly,  but it sounds like it was working fine until recently for you, is that correct? If Nitrous Direct3d 11 is missing, that would be a telltale sign that Max isn't getting along with your graphics card.

There might be a reason your driver download was interrupted, you could perform a clean uninstall before reinstalling it, here is an article walking through the steps on how to do so.

If it was working previously, what changed? A recent windows update, or downloading a more recent copy of Max? Was your copy of Max working prior to a recent update?

Looking forward to figuring this issue out 😄

First of all thanks for the fast and professional reply!

Second yes, all the problems started when I updated my original GPU driver which didn't cause me any troubles 416.16 to 416.34 then this issue started.

I tried the solution in this forum and other forums as well with no success.

I can try to downgrade again but other application needs the GPU upgrade, today I have 416.94 and if I can I would like to keep it that way 🙂

Hi @Anonymous

I have made a note of this, and noticed a trend with a few other customers having graphical issues with the same update.

I emailed a few colleagues to let them know! I well get back to you as soon as we figure out more 😄

Yeah rolling your GPU driver back doesn't sound ideal, hopefully we can figure something out in the meantime.

OK thank you very much! as for now I am rolling back to 416.16 😞

also, I noticed other softwares acting strange like Photoshop and 1 game that actually tell me I need DirectX 11 to make it work.

Hope we could solve this problem!

P.S.

Is this only 2018 problem? or other versions as well?

I can't be certain of the trend, but I will let you know when we figure out something definitive!
