3DMax performance

I have 3DMax 2015 on a laptop with a single 2.2 GHz processor, w/ 8Gb Ram, and also on a Dell dual processor 2.4GHz machine with 64 Gb Ram. But the laptop renders the same model way faster than the dual machine! usually more than twice as fast?

Seems odd to me... what's not right with the dual machine?

You'll need to provide more information e.g. what you are rendering (simple box?  scene with complex lighting and materials?), are you rendering a single image or multiple frames of an animation, what render engine is being used, render settings on both (I'm assuming you've already compared between the two?), what generation of processor, and so on.
