Links to FBX files are lost after merging.

HI,

I would like to merge several .max files into my main scene. The merged files contain linked FBX models. The FBX models were linked using the Manage links dialog.

After merging the max files containing the linked data into my main scene the models are perfectly merged and when I select a model it says 'linked geometry' in the command panel. So far so good!

Now when I go to the  file>reference> manage links  dialog in the main file the links are not showing. I did save the file and reopen. No links. I closed MAX and reopened, no links.....So I have no way of updating or even binding the models in my main scene?

No reference to the original source of the models in the manage link dialog, no info shows up in asset tracking.

Max 2018.4 - both source and mainfiles are located in the same dir. on a nas server.

I hope there is way to get the links alive again 🙂

Thanks,

Arjan

Hi,

What you're getting is the normal behavior of 3DS Max,

The Manage Links dialog will only show you the direct links, no nesting.

So to keep a live link with your FBX, you should link it directly to your main scene file,

Otherwise, you'll have to do a new Merge everytime you modify your FBX file.

Hi,

Just wanted to know if you have already sent this as a feature request?

Thanks
