Question about duplicating rig/animations.

Hi

I need to create four similar pedestrian models in max (2xmale 2xfemale)

Once I have modelled the pedestrians I will then need to rig and animate a walk cycle for them.

As far as i'm aware I will need to individually rig and animate each of the four models? Or is there a way of rigging the first model and then duplicatiing

that rig to the other 3 models? If so would it also be possible to duplicate the walk cycle from one of the models to the other 3?

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

yes it is possible to duplicate rigged characters in 3ds Max!

Although usually Males and Females rigs would differ, proportion wise.

Male rigs have longer torsos and wider shoulders, and would also be a little taller too.

Animation wise, Males and Females would not walk the same.

Re-using Skining information.

If all meshes are the same meshes, you can copy the Skin information from a character to another using 'Skin Utilities' (Command Panel > Tools > Skin Utilities)

If the Meshes are not the same, you can re-use Skin information via 'Skin Wrap' modifier

For rigging and animation re-use. I would suggest Biped Rig for all animation tools and ability to save and load animations via the .bip animation file.

I hope this can help! 🙂

That's great thank you for your detailed response.

I have just realised that the height of my skinned character is 70 metres. What would be your suggeastion on how to adjust the characters height. I tried to adjust the height of the skeleton however the characters mesh transforms into a blob?

Thanks again
