Populate render issue

Hi all,

I am having real issues with using the populate feature in 3ds max 2018.

I have filled my space with about 60 different characters, some standing some sitting. I am using Vray as my render engine. When I go to render it on my local machine the characters are all using standard materials. They rendering overly bright. So based on that I convert the standard materials to Vray materials. They now render correctly within the scene.

Issue #1

I  send it off to render on my network. The issue is when it renders over the network the characters are back to being overly bright again.

Very frustrating.

So then I thought of baking all the animation into the characters. So I did that.

Issue #2

But when I do that every character in the scene loses its material assigned to it.  They don't have any material assigned to them.

I'm getting to the point of just totally not using it. Has anyone else run into these issues?

Thanks

Alex
