object rotation animation on its own axis

Hello everyone...
I'm wanting to make an animation where a cap (which is at a certain angle) rotates on its own axis, and leaves the body, however, when I rotate, with the local coordinate reference, the cap rotates around the desired axis, but in the world coordinate... I would like to do this in the curve editor, because I want a smooth animation both in rotation and in movement...
thank you!

Have a look at the axis order parameters in the motion panel. When you change the axis order, your model may change orientation, save before modifying anything. I don't rely on 3dsmax's Undo at some points. Test orders starting with Y, as your yellow cap object Y axis is the axis you may be mostly requiring to rotate about.

One of may work for you. Honestly,  I have no idea on what all these axes mean and why they exist, but I've just tested with a cylinder, with z axis parallel to its height. Orders started with z worked properly.

If you wish to rotate the piece in a separate axis, you may consider using a dummy object and links.

a strange thing, was that after I made this post, I went to make other attempts and realized that when I rotated through the curve editor, the x axis rotated inside the object's x axis, the z axis also in the object's axis, but when applied the y axis, then it rotated around the world axis

it worked... I placed a dummy, aligned it with the object and adjusted the dummy's x axis to coincide with the object's y axis, I entered the curve editor and managed to make the desired rotation...
thanks
