Not understanding the curve editor

Hi I'm just starting to learn to use the curve editor and I'm confused about something.

I'm making a run cycle. I want the foot to stay at the same Y axis for a keyframe, so I go to the keyframe before it in the Y channel, and Shift+Ctrl copy and drag it into the next keyframe. "Issue" (or thing I  don't understand) is that it copies the keyframe from all XYZ positions and keeps it in the same position instead of copying only the Y axis.

Can someone explain how I would go about doing this the right way, if my question makes any sense? I'm aware I can just go to the position coordinates at the bottom right but I'm trying to adapt to doing everything in the curve editor.

Figured it out... I had my reference coordinate set to view and was moving it along the X axis from a left side view which made it look like it was in place when I should have been using world view...
