Issue Exporting Animation With CAT Rig

Hi, I'm having a problem with exporting one of my animations from 3dsmax to unreal. I'm using CAT to animate a character and I've rigged it with CAT bones. I've also added some normal 3dsmax bones that I've parented to the CAT rig so that I can do some squash and stretch. I've adjusted the skinning on some of the CAT bones as well as some of the 3dsmax bones. It looks fine in 3dsmax, but when I export it as an FBX to unity or unreal the does not export the adjustments I made to the skin for parts of the mesh being affected by the 3dsmax bones (I've checked it in multiple engines so this is likely an export issue and not an import issue). The 3dsmax bones are still acting on the model and are still exported, they just act as though I made no adjustments to the skin. Does anyone know why this could be happening? It's really frustrating. I've just about exhausted all my resources and options so I'm pretty desperate, any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
