Error when loading animation

Anonymous
Not applicable

I made a short animation based on dummy. And then I save the animation, open another file and load the animation on the dummy with same name. But after that the dummy has the same rotation and scale animation as before, position information is lost. I tried on a different dummy and this time the rotation information is lost.

Should I give up and redo the animation? or redo the rigging? that's a lot of work to do Smiley Sad

Could anyone please help me with this? Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

when you say "save" and "load" animation, are you referring to the menu item Animation > Save/Load Animation ... workflow ?

If so, this may relate to mapping controllers on Load, I'd look at first from the description you give.

Or is it via FBX, or other means (CAT, Biped) ?

Yea I mean save/load by "Animation > Save/Load Animation". Is there any way to match the mapping controllers so that I can save & load animation between different file?

Thanks a lot for replying!

Accepted solution

Hi again @Anonymous,

yes, in the Import UI, you have to create the mapping from the loaded animation (.xaf file) to the scene object.

On Load Animation, use the "Edit mapping" button :

Load-EditMappingButton.jpg

Then you get this mapping window :

MapAnimation.jpg

The middle part "map track to track" has 3 columns :

Current (left side) : Is the Scene object selected on which to load the animation.

Incoming (right side) : Is the animation stored in the .xaf

Mapped (center) : Are the mapped tracks.

If the animation is not automatically mapped :

. Select track on the right side and a track on the left side.

. Click on the arrow button ( <- ) located between Mapped and Incoming lists (under the mouse arrow in screen shot)

Then at the bottom (retargeting rollout), save the map file (.xmm file).

The button "Load Motion" (just on the right of Save Mapping As) will get enabled after.

You can also set to replace, insert, be relative or absolute.

Try to match the tracks by Axis for best results.

Note that if there is no animation on a track, when saving it will not save any track data in the .xaf file.

I hope this is clear enough and can help! 🙂

Regards,
