Spline with SplineIK and Sweep modifier with animated SplineIK helpers.
For animation UV you can use UVW Xform (changing offset value)
Thanks. I've tried SplineIK, but I can't seem to get the right balance of bones/dummies to maintain the straight portion at either end. I've attached a screenshot of the shape I need to get.
Weird. I just cannot seem to get it to work. How many bones and helpers are you using?
