Biped Rigged character needs scaling up

Hello,

I have  rigged character, in 3ds max using a biped, it also has Morphers on it to animate weight gain.

But the issue is that we have a camera that is huge, like incredibly massive compared to the character. This camera comes from Mocha as its exported from tracked footage.

Any way to scale up a character without damaging the rig? or vi versa, scale down the camera?

Thanks,

J

Hi @Anonymous,

You may do this using the Utility Rescale World Units.

Command Panel > Utilities > go in [More] > Rescale World Units

Works either on Selection or the Scene.

More information :

I hope this can help! 🙂

Hi! 🙂

I suspect that you are using the rescale tool in Selection mode.

If so, all parts of the Rig has to be selected, including meshes.

I've tried a few things on my side with Biped, Skinned and Morpher character trying to reproduced something similar. The scale worked for me. 😕

If you do have the choice between the Camera and the Character to scale, scaling the camera should be the least troubles.

Does scaling the camera worked for you ?

If possible to share the scene, I can have a look as to what's going on with scaling the rig.

You could try adding all of your character to a Character Node (you may find it in the customize menu) and then scale that to the right size and then destroy the character node, leaving your biped/character at the right size. I use this technique when I get given rigged characters that are too small for the scenes. Works on most objects, light rigs, environments, etc. You may have to add it, as I have done to a menu, I chose Animation, but you could just create a custom Quad for it. Once created, you will find options for it in the Modify panel. The Character node is the top level parent. Possibly check the scale of items in the rig prior to adding to a character node as existing scaling in the rig may cause adverse effect. When I am using this method, I make sure the rig does not have existing scaling. Also, if I am using a custom rig made with bones, I do not use mirrored bones as a rule, opting instead to use an auto rigging script I wrote.
